Day 1 of the Hoop Dreams Magazine Middle School Combine was filled with excitement, energy, and high-level competition as players from multiple classes came together to showcase their talent. The day began with official combine testing, including the vertical jump, shuttle run, 3/4 court sprint, and lane agility—giving players an opportunity to display their athleticism and measure their performance.
Following testing, the gym was buzzing as players transitioned into competitive play, where several prospects quickly separated themselves as standouts.
Tonly Lee Jr. (Class of 2033)
Lee Jr. made a strong impression from start to finish. A big guard with a smooth game, he consistently got to his spots on the floor and played with confidence. Lee showed the ability to score at all three levels, knocking down perimeter shots while also finishing effectively with both hands around the rim. On the defensive end, he competed and stayed engaged, showing a well-rounded game. With his size, skill set, and feel, Lee Jr. has the upside to develop into a big-time guard.
Tupac Medina (Class of 2032)
Medina stood out with his advanced court vision and high basketball IQ. His ability to read the floor and make the right play set him apart from others in his class. Medina used angles and space effectively, navigating defenders with control and purpose. A pass-first guard, his unselfish mindset makes players around him better, while still being able to score when needed. His feel for the game is rare at this age, and he is definitely a name to watch moving forward.
Kyrie Robinson (Class of 2033)
Robinson established himself as one of the top guards on the floor. Another big guard, he attacked the rim relentlessly and showed the ability to score at all levels. Whether finishing at the basket or knocking down shots, Robinson was aggressive and confident in his approach. He got to the rim at will and proved he can consistently put pressure on the defense. With his current skillset and projected growth, Robinson has a significant advantage as he continues to develop.
Overall, Day 1 set the tone for what promises to be an outstanding combine. With a mix of athletic testing and competitive gameplay, players had the opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of evaluators and build their profiles. Day 2 is expected to bring even more intensity as athletes look to separate themselves and solidify their standing.
