Day One Scholar Round Ball Classic

on Saturday, Hoop Dreams Magazine was on hand to catch a number of great performances at the Scholar Round Ball Classic, which took place at one of New England’s most beautiful college campuses, Babson College.

Cushing Academy 71 Rivers School 47
This game was lead by future Butler bulldog Andrew Chrabascz, who seemed to cruise to an easy 20 points. Chrabascz showed off his usual dominance in the paint, but he also showed us a little of his versatility with the play of the game handling the ball spinning and finishing with a two handed dunk through the lane. We at HDM want to also say congratulation on your 1000th point at Cushing Academy. Matt Mareno also played a good game pouring in 16 to help Cushing in the win.

Vanier Prep 81 Brimmer & May 76
In the loss Brimmer and May did all they could to get a win against their Canadian neighbors Vanier Prep but came up short. Jr. Sammy Mojica played great for Brimmer, without starting point Adrien Oliviera, Mojica was forced to be the primary ball handler. It did not slow his offense one bit, as he was able net 26 points . Senior John Powell scored 19, while Karl Baptiste contributed 15 taking over late second half.

Northfield Mount Hermon 63 Beaver Country Day 60
Hands down the best game of day one, surprisingly what turned out to be a great matchup as BCD came ready to play. In the win Anthony Dallier 17 and Josh Hearlihy 18 led NMH. NMH was also helped by big key baskets from Skylar White and sharp shooter Sam Donahue. Not taking anything away from BCD who led for most of the game, they played great and what ultimately came down to the last few possessions.

Kimball Union Academy 67 Milton Academy 49
This game belonged to Crew Ainge and Devon Thomas. Thomas was a true floor general in this one, as he knew when to take over and where to place certain players for easy buckets. There was no one on the court who played harder than Crew Ainge. Though he finished the game with 13, his gritty play on defense and toughness on offense is what ultimately set the tone for the KUA win against a very good Milton Academy team.

Blair Academy 72 Phillips Academy Andover 40

Blair was led by star Canadian guard Marial Shayok who scored 19 points

Phillips Exeter 85 Tabor Academy 49
Exter as a team played hard and executed their offense in lopsided win over Tabor Academy.

Needham 63 Brighton 60
In the win Needham was led by Connor McLeod who notched 20 points. While Brighton’s Nick Simpson poured in a game high 27 points in the loss. Needham had no answer for Simpson as he was able to score in assortment of ways, but ultimately his scoring wasn’t enough to pull out the win for a very good Brighton team.
