The Hillhouse Academics did some schooling Monday night against the No. 1 ranked Notre Dame West-Haven in front of a sellout crowd at the Quinnipiac TD Bank Sports Center.
The first quarter looked to be all Academics in the beginning who held a 22-13 at the end of one. The green Knights would come soaring back in the second quarter led by Georgetown commit Tremont Waters who was able to notch 16 of his 22 points in the first half.
The Academics would take a 33-26 lead going into the half and that’s when senior guard Joe Kasperzyk steps in for Hillhouse.
Kasperzyk and his Academics teammates knew that defensively they would have to step it up and they did just that holding Tremont Waters to only 6 points in the second half. The Green Knights would trim the Academics lead to 3 (47-44) at the end of the 3rd.
The Green Knights would show signs of life with possibly changing momentum of the game on their side when they took a 54-53 lead with 4:35 to play. But that quickly changed when Kasperzyk decided to take over scoring 9 of his game high 23 points in the 4th.
The Academics would control the game the rest of the way to a 70-62 win handing the Green Knights their first loss of the season.
