Sunday afternoon high school gymnasiums were filled throughout the state of Massachusetts and the madness of basketball in March must be in the air.
St. John Prep and Central Catholic got the day started in what was said to be thriller down to the final whistle. CC came away with an upset victory over SJP 66-62. Kevin Fernandez poured in 26 points to lead Central Catholic.
The matchup between Cambridge and Andover went into overtime on a Devon Beasley jump shot with the clock running down and runs out on a Cambridge possession. In overtime Cambridge took off and never looked back winning 84-66. Kareem Octavian (25) and Malik Correia (15) stepped up big and combined for almost half of the Falcons points.
In Central Mass. Concord-Carlisle and Nashoba had a tough match up also that went down to the final period. It was hard for Nashoba to hold on when CC’s Eric Sellew scores 19 second half points to go with 23 rebounds. Concord-Carlisle’s only loss came to Cambridge so it speaks volumes to how talented this Patriots team in.
If you thought the day of basketball was going to slow down then you must have missed the intro to this article that mentioned the madness of March. Marlborough faced a tough Medfield team. The game was decided on Marlborough’s Joao Mendes steal that in the final period with less than a minute to play. A final effort by Medfield at the buzzer would fail and fall to Marlborough 59-58. Joao Mendes finished with 25 points
