After visiting the Pitt Campus last week, along with his father Mustapha Heron has decided that he will become a Pitt Panther and has given Jamie Dixon a verbal commitment.
“The visit went well, he enjoyed it, he loved the players and coaches, along with the system. He felt that there guards resembled the style of play that he would love to be apart of ” states the elder Heron
We felt real comfortable with the players and the coaches, Barry Rohrssen led the recruitment of Heron as he has had a relationship with dad for 25 years, he played professional basketball overseas in Poland with Mr Heron.
Coach Dixon was great, “I had a list of questions for coach, along with how I would be used during the course of the game. All my questions and concerns were answered” states Mustapha
When asked why commit so soon, the elder Heron states “He didn’t want to go through the big process of being called daily, he felt that this was the right fit and my relationship with coach, I wanted to make sure he was with someone I knew, which gives me the security that he will be in good hands”
In Heron, Jamie Dixon’s club is landing a strong, athletic power guard who has the potential to a transition to a point guard down the road. He is ranked No. 1 by Hoop Dreams Magazine & No. 14 by ESPN for the Class of 2015.
“Coach Dixon is just a real personable guy along with the rest of the staff, he’s laid back, and we just have one thing in common — we want to win national championships,” Heron told HoopDreamsMag.com. “I feel like together, with me, that’s possible. I hope to have a great season this year, and continue to get better by working out everyday and developing my game.
Heron will suit up for Todd Quarles’s Expressions Elite program during the AAU season, and participate in the high powered NIKE EYBL. Expressions Elite made headlines as they took the league by storm last season. Heron will join the talented group and become one of the focal points from day one.
