Dimitri Floras a native of Merrimack NH who now attends the McDuffie School (MA), has been known for his toughness and an ability to make tough shots in any situation. Head coach Tom Moore of Quinnipiac University made Floras a priority, stayed with him when other big names schools came calling and it paid off.
Today at a school assembly, Floras gave a verbal commitment to Quinnipiac University.
“I chose Quinnipiac University they stuck with me throughout my entire recruiting process” Floras tells HoopDreamsMag. When asked why he chose the Bobcats Floras states, “I will have an opportunity to come in, play right away and be a leader as a freshmen that was appealing to me.”
McDuffie head coach Jerry McCullough on his decision, “I’m happy that Dimitri committed to a school with a coaching staff thats been committed to recruiting him for the past few years. QU understands Dimitri the person and player.”
Floras played his AAU basketball with Expressions Elite, a team that made a splash on the Nike sponsored EYBL circuit this spring/summer as they qualified for “Peach Jam” with Floras as the lead point guard.
Dimitri saw his recruitment take a jump last season as the likes of Tulsa, St Bonaventure, Xavier, Utah State, Buffalo, and Boston University all where involved. But in the end Quinnipiac University revealed to be the best fit.
“I’m excited for Dimitri he is a hard working kid, he comes prepared and plays hard at all times, Tom Moore and Scott Burrell have done a great job recruiting him. He will do well in there new conference,” states Expressions Elite head coach Ty Boswell.
Floras became the 6th and final senior to commit to a division one scholarship school from their 2014 EYBL team. Abdul Malik Abu (NC State), Jared Terrell (Oklahoma State), Idris Taqqee (St. Bonaventure), Alec Brennan (Princeton), Cane Broome (Scared Heart) and now Dimitri Floras (Quinnipiac) this is a very impressive accomplishment for a team. A trend we hope will continue with all teams.
