Coming into the season the number one goal for coach Tom Espinosa team was to make “The National Prep Tournament,” with this years squad its looking pretty good. This years Putnam Science team has been touted as the deepest, and most talented squad coach Espinosa has had at his disposal during his tenure at the school. The team now consists of a slew of scholarship caliber players.
Starting with Dayton commit Dayson “Schoocie” Smith. The 6’2” Bronx native has all the tools a coach would want in a point guard. He is extremely unselfish, elusive, and just a smart guard. Best way to describe Dayson, is as a playmaker. He’s pesky on defense (leading team in steals) and does nothing but make plays on offense (leads team in assist and points). Smith is accompanied by his running mate, combo guard Jemal Mosely, who is also a division 1 caliber guard. The two New Yorkers create havoc on the hardwood with their speed, shooting and ability to make a killing in the lane.
The wildcards for PSA are three athletic swingmen, 6-5 Mairega Clarke from Queens, 6-6 Joel Angus from Brooklyn and 6-5 lefthander Jonte Rutty from Newburgh, N.Y. Rounding out this years team is the two big men in the middle. Division I prospects 6-11 Ugar Hortum from Turkey and 6-9 Paul Brooks from Arlington, Mass.
