Derek Kellog is starting to turn thing around at Umass and its beginning. After making it to the semis in the NIT and now putting together a stellar recruiting class, things are looking up in Amherst, MA. The latest addition to the 2012 Minutemen recruiting class is Manassas, Va native 7’0 C Isaac Freeman of South Kent School (CT) per his father Kevin freeman. Freeman is an exceptional shot blocker that has range on his jump shot that extends to 15-17 feet. Freeman also does great work around the rim with his back to the basket. Freeman adds size to a very small Umass team which lacked a true center this season.
Freeman joins 6’8 PF Tyler Bergantino, 6’3 Trey Davis (Vermont Academy) and Western Kentucky transfer 6’2 Derrick Gordon to make up the recruiting class. Gordon will have to sit out a year per NCAA transfer rules and will be eligible the following season. Gordon averaged nearly 12ppg this past season and will team up with former New Hampton star guard Jordan Laguerre. Laguerre and Gordon together form a high scoring athletic backcourt.
Freeman becomes the fifth South Kent player to choose a school, Ricardo Ledo (Providence) Laimonas Chatkevicius (South Carlina) Zedric Sadler (Rider) Chris Ortiz (Kent State)
Freeman chose the Minutemen over Drexel, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Central Florida and DePaul.
